Manuel Lichtenwöhrer
He received his first trumpet lessons at the age of 6 at the Landesmusikschule
Windischgarsten – Spital/Pyhrn. He later continued his training with Professor Stanko Arnold
at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz. He also passed his first (2002) and
second (2004) diploma examinations with honours there.
Concurrent with his studies in Graz, he also studied with Fred Mills at the University of
Georgia, USA in 1999 and began private studies with Bo Nilsson in Malmö, Sweden in 2000,
completing them in 2005. This led to soloist studies with Hakan Hardenberger at the Malmö
Academy of Music from 2005-2008.
The young artist can already look back on myriad solo appearances in Austria, Germany,
Sweden, Finland, Slovenia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy,
France, England, Malta,Mexico, Japan, China and USA. He has also had the opportunity to demonstrate his
talent at concerts like Meisterkonzerte in Bregenz , Austria, at the Carinthischer Sommer music festival and at Proms in London, Brass Festival in Athens, March Music Days in Rousse/BLG, an the Budapest Spring Festival.
He has also appeared with orchestras like the Kremerata Baltica, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Malmö Opera and Symphony Orchestra,
Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Academic Orchestra Vienna, Viennese Bachsoloists, Ensemble Intercontemporain, …….
He was working with musical personalities like Oleg Maisenberg, Robert Lehrbaumer, Hakan Hardenberger, Jorji Hattori, Mariss Jansons,…..
As Soloist he also appeared at additional famous concert halls like the Megaron in Athens, Greece, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan, the Concerthouse Vienna, Brucknerhaus
Linz and the Cologne Philharmonie, Herkules Saal München, Atlanta Symphonie Hall, …….
In addition to his solo performances and his chamber music activities, including with the brass
quintet Best Brass Austria, The Art Of Trumpet Vienna, Magic Brass Vienna and the Ensemble Aero led by Hakan Hardenberger
From 2000 – 2006 he was also a member of the Graz Symphony Orchestra.
Manuel Lichtenwöhrer has received prizes at several national and international competitions,
for example at the Prima La Musica, Gradus ad Parnassum, the international ARD Music
Competition in Munich, the International Trumpet Competition in Hungary,
and the 1st Intermusica Alpen-Donau-Adria Competition in Birkfeld, Austria.
In 1998 and 1999 he won the Lions Club Cultural Advancement Award and received a grant
from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in 2004.
